Audio available for B1 version

Once upon a time, there was a Gnat who liked to brag about his strength. One day, he saw a Lion resting under a tree and decided he would prove his might.

The Gnat flew swiftly towards the Lion and stung him right on his face. Startled, the Lion woke up from his peaceful nap and swatted at his face with his massive paw. He couldn't catch the Gnat, and in the process, he only managed to scratch his own face, causing himself quite some pain.

Seeing the Lion hurt himself while trying to catch him, the Gnat flew away, laughing and boasting. "I beat the mighty Lion," he claimed, proud of his supposed victory.

However, not long after, as the Gnat was happily buzzing around, he suddenly found himself trapped in a spider's web. He tried to escape, but his efforts were in vain. He was stuck, unable to free himself.

Soon enough, a spider came along and seeing the Gnat trapped in its web, it had him for its meal. And just like that, the boastful Gnat who had "defeated" the Lion met his end.

Once upon a time, in a forest where critters chatted more than they should and no one had ever heard of a smartphone, lived a Gnat. Oh yeah, this tiny buzzster thought he was the superhero of insects, like a teeny-tiny version of a superhero you'd see in cartoons. "Hey! I might be small, but I'm big on courage," he'd announce, doing tiny flexes in the air.

So, on a lazy afternoon, the Gnat spots a Lion snoozing under a tree, dreaming away in the land of catnaps. "Aha!" thinks the Gnat, "Time for some epic action that'll be talked about for generations—or at least until dinner!"

With the grace of a gymnast and the speed of a race car, the Gnat swoops down and zaps the Lion right on the snout. Kabam! The Lion wakes up faster than if he'd stepped on a Lego. "Who dares ruin my afternoon siesta?" the Lion roars, swiping a humongous paw at his face.

But our itty-bitty daredevil dodges it! In fact, the Lion just ends up scratching his own cheek. Double oops!

Flying away and cackling like he's just won a comedy award, the Gnat says, "I just made a Lion look like he's playing a game of tag—with himself!"

But let's just say destiny had other plans. The Gnat, buzzing along like he’s the star of his own show, suddenly gets ensnared in a sticky web. No wiggling, no jiggling could set him free. He's like a sticker stuck on a new toy, impossible to peel off.

Up comes a Spider, slow and smooth, like it’s just another day at the office. "Hmm, a Gnat, eh? Thought you could outsmart the king of the jungle, and yet here you are, stuck in my humble web."

"Come on, don't I get points for making a Lion look silly?" the Gnat pleads.

The Spider smirks, "Oh, my dear, making a snoozing Lion miss a swipe hardly qualifies for the Genius of the Year award."

And just like that—crunch, crunch—the Gnat who had once made a Lion scratch his own face became a cozy, little supper for the Spider.

A Gnat who boasted loud and long,
Said, "I'm so strong, oh, I'm so strong!"
He spied a Lion, big and grand,
Napping in his forest land.

Zoom, zoom, buzz! Quick as a trace,
Stung that Lion right on his face.
Lion woke, so full of surprise,
Swatted fast, but missed those flies.

With a scratch upon his cheek,
Lion roared, a mighty shriek!
Gnat just giggled, flew away,
"Beat the Lion!" he'd proudly say.

Buzzing on, oh what a thrill,
Till he met a spider's skill.
Stuck he was, in web so fine,
No more boasting, end of line.

Spider munched and had a treat,
Gnat was gone, just like that, neat!
Pride and boasting, as you see,
Won't make you strong as strong can be.

Pride, when misplaced, can lead to a downfall.
Every sting, every boast, leaves a thread in the web of consequences.
