Audio available for B1 version

In a land of thick forests and rolling hills, there lived a sly Wolf and a clever Sheep.

One day, the Wolf hurt his paw. As he limped painfully to a creek, he realized he couldn't bend down to drink. Just then, he spotted a Sheep strolling by. In his raspy voice, he asked, "Little Sheep, can you fetch me some water from the nearby stream? I'm weak and parched."

The Sheep, clever and cautious, looked at the Wolf and replied, "Mr. Wolf, if I bring you water, I fear I might turn from a helper into a meal."

With a quick hop, the Sheep walked away, leaving the Wolf to find his own water. The clever Sheep knew well enough to stay out of the Wolf's hungry clutches. The forest echoed with the grumbling of the Wolf and the relieved sighs of the Sheep.

In a land that had so many trees you'd think they were giving them away, and hills that looked like giant scoops of ice cream, lived a Wolf with an attitude and a Sheep who could outsmart a maze. It was like they were the heroes in a fairy tale, but you know, the kind where the hero is also kinda the villain.

One day, our Wolf pal had a bit of an "oopsie-daisy." He tripped and hurt his paw. "Ah, nuts! How am I supposed to be the cool, scary Wolf now?" he moaned, hobbling to a creek like he was in a slow-motion movie scene.

When he got there, he realized he couldn't bend down to drink. His paw felt like it had a boo-boo the size of a mountain. Just then, Mr. Smarty-Pants Sheep strolled by, looking like he just won first prize at a "Being a Sheep" contest.

"Hey, Sheep," the Wolf rasped, sounding like he'd swallowed a kazoo. "Mind getting me some water? My mouth is as dry as a cookie left out in the sun."

The Sheep grinned, looking like he'd just solved the world's hardest puzzle. "Well, Mr. Wolf, here's the deal. If I get you water, I think I might end up being your snack."

"A snack? Me? How could you think that?" the Wolf asked, doing his best to look innocent.

"I'm not falling for those puppy eyes. No water for you, but plenty of distance for me," the Sheep replied, hopping away like he'd just heard his favorite song.

The Wolf laughed. "You're missing out, buddy. I would've been the best 'not-snack' you ever had!"

And off went the Sheep, probably to write in his diary about how he dodged becoming the "Wolf's Special of the Day." The Wolf? Well, he was left to wonder why it's so tough being the bad guy.

As the Sheep walked away, the forest seemed to hum with the sound of the Wolf's grumbling tummy and the Sheep's giggles, which kinda sounded like, "Nice try, Mr. Wolf!"

Wolf hurt his paw one sunny day,
Limped to a creek, but couldn't bend to the bay.
Along came a Sheep, strolling carefree,
Wolf rasped, "Fetch me some water, as parched as can be."

Sheep looked at the Wolf, eyes open wide,
"Bring you some water? I'll be swallowed beside.
If I'm your helper, I might become your lunch,
Turning from aide to a biteable munch."

With wisdom in step, Sheep pranced away,
Leaving Wolf to his thirst, for another day.
In forest echoes, two sounds came to sweep,
A Wolf's grumbling growl and the sigh of wise Sheep.

So in tales and in life, let this lesson unfurl,
Not all cries for help come from a heart that's pearl.
Like clever old Sheep, it's good to think twice,
For not every plea comes from motives so nice.

Fable Quotes

Caution is the shield that protects the wise from the hidden snares of deception.
In the realm of deceit, a clever eye discerns the hidden fangs beneath the guise.
Trust wisely, for even a sly smile can mask the hunger that lurks behind it.
