Audio available for B1 version

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful pond made by a King for his young princes to have fun and play in. They would swim and sail their little boats, enjoying the cool water. One day, the King decided to add some fishes to make it even more fun.

The princes were very excited and went to see the fishes. But among the fishes, there was also a Turtle. When the princes saw the Turtle, they got scared and thought it was a strange creature. They ran to their father and shouted, "There's a monster near the pond!"

The King told his people to catch the so-called monster and bring it to the palace. When the boys saw the Turtle, they screamed and hid. The King loved his sons very much, so he told his people to get rid of the Turtle.

"What should we do with it?" they asked.

"Crush it," one person suggested. "Cook it over hot coals," another person said. They came up with many different plans until an old man, who was always scared of water, said, "Throw it into the pond where the water falls over the rocks. It will surely die there."

The Turtle heard this and stuck its head out, begging, "Friend, why such a terrible plan? The other ideas were bad, but throwing me into the pond! Please, don't be so harsh!"

When the King heard the Turtle's plea, he told his people to follow the old man's plan and throw the Turtle into the pond.

As soon as the Turtle hit the water, it started swimming away, happily thinking to itself, "Ah, these people don't know how safe I feel in the water!" It happily swam back to its old home. And so, the clever Turtle saved its own life.

Once upon a time, in a pond that was so fancy it was like a playground for frogs and fish, young princes splashed around. This pond was awesome, let me tell you! It even had lily pads that looked like they were designed by the King himself.

"Boat race!" one prince shouted. "I’ve got the sailboat!"

"I’ve got the speedboat!" yelled the other, making vroom-vroom noises.

Then, their dad, the King, had a light bulb moment. "You know what this party pond needs? Fish, that's what!"

So, faster than you can say 'fish sticks,' the King added a bunch of fish to the pond. Oh, and there was also a Turtle. Not a candy, but an actual turtle with a shell and everything.

When the princes saw the Turtle, they ran like their pants were on fire. "Dad, Dad, there’s a monster in the pond!"

The King really loved his kids. "Bring me this so-called pond monster!" he commanded, like he was ordering a pizza with extra cheese.

So they did. And the princes screamed like they'd seen a ghost. "Ahhhh!"

The King turned to his helpers and said, "Well, what should we do with Mr. Turtle here?"

"Squish him," said one.

"Or maybe cook him," said another.

Just then, an old man who was afraid of water like a cat is scared of baths spoke up. "How about tossing him into the rough part of the pond with rocks and fast water? He won’t make it!"

The Turtle peeked out from his shell. "Wait a minute! Are you planning a wild ride without asking me? Rocks? Really? How about a kinder option, like a soft landing?"

The King chuckled. "Alright, let’s do what the old man said. To the rocky pond!"

The moment they tossed him into the water, Turtle felt like he'd just won the lottery. "Ha! They don’t know this is my happy place!" And off he swam, faster than you could say 'cowabunga!'

Turtle found his favorite spot in the pond and thought, "Ah, they have no clue how awesome it is to be a turtle. Life's good when you love the water!"

And so, with a big smile and a happy heart, our clever Turtle swam on. The end.

Once a King built a pond, you see,
For his young princes full of glee.
They'd swim and sail their boats so small,
Oh, how they relished their royal hall!

One day the King thought, "What a plan!
I'll add some fish to this water span."
His princes raced to watch the show,
But something made their faces glow.

Amidst the fish, a Turtle crept,
The princes saw and away they leapt.
"There's a monster!" they yelled with fear,
And ran to their father who was so dear.

The King declared, "Catch this creature vile,
Bring it here, let's see it awhile."
The boys saw the Turtle and shrieked away,
So the King said, "It cannot stay."

"Crush it or cook it," the crowd did muse,
With many a plan they did peruse.
Then spoke an elder afraid of streams,
"Throw it where water leaps in beams!"

The Turtle heard and stuck out its head,
"Why such doom? I'd rather be dead!"
But the King insisted, "Do as we say,
Throw it where waterfalls hold sway."

Oh, what a splash when Turtle was tossed,
But not a moment of life was lost!
"Ah," thought the Turtle, "this is sublime,
They don't know water's my happy time!"

Away it swam to its former place,
A clever smile stretched on its face.
It had tricked them all, saved its own scale,
And that’s the end of this Turtle’s tale!
