Long time ago, in the heart of a deep, dense forest, a lion emerged from his cozy den. He had just eaten a big buffalo and was feeling satisfied. His belly full, he strolled to the lake for a refreshing drink.
On his way back, the lion bumped into a hungry jackal. The jackal was afraid but knew he couldn't escape, so he quickly lay down at the lion's feet.
"What do you want?" the lion asked in his deep, booming voice.
"O Mighty Lion," replied the jackal, "please allow me to serve you."
"Alright," said the lion, "if you serve me, I'll provide you with good food." The lion then trotted back to his den for a nap.
After his rest, the lion gave the jackal his first task. "Each day, climb the mountain top and look for any elephants, ponies, or buffaloes. If you see any, come back and say, 'Great Lion, awaken in your power. Food awaits us.' I will then hunt, we will both eat."
And so, day after day, the jackal would climb the mountain, spot a potential meal, and report back to the lion. The lion would then hunt the creature, and they would both feast on the spoils.
As time passed, the jackal grew larger and stronger, thanks to the bountiful food he was eating. He started feeling proud of his size and strength, and thought to himself, "Why am I relying on the lion's kill? I should hunt my own food. I'll bring down an elephant myself."
He went to the lion with his plan. "I want to hunt an elephant myself. Let me rest in the den while you spot the elephant. Then, call me out saying, 'Great Jackal, awaken in your power. Food awaits us.' I will then kill the elephant."
The lion tried to warn him, "Jackal, only lions can kill elephants. No jackal has ever killed an elephant. Eat what I hunt, and be content."
But the jackal was determined. So, the lion agreed, "Alright, have it your way."
The lion climbed the mountain and spotted an elephant. He returned to the den and called out, "Great Jackal, awaken in your power. Food awaits us."
Excited, the jackal sprinted out of the den and charged at the elephant. He jumped towards it, but his aim was off. He landed at the elephant's feet. The elephant lifted its foot and squashed the overconfident jackal.
Seeing this, the lion sighed and said, "You won't be hunting again, you foolhardy Jackal."
Once upon a fun time in a forest that was so colorful, it looked like a playground, Lion woke up and stretched big. "Ah, that was some tasty dinner!" he said, giving his round tummy a happy pat.
Feeling a bit thirsty, Lion went to the nearby lake, which he liked to call "Sip 'n' Splash," for a drink. But oh, surprise! He bumped into Jackal, who looked as hungry as if he'd just seen a mountain of ice cream.
"Whoa, hold on! What's up?" Lion roared, sounding like he was announcing the start of a really cool game.
Trying to keep his shaky knees together, Jackal said, "Oh, King of Cool, can I be your helper, please? I'm really good at finding stuff!"
Lion laughed. "Well, you look like you could use a job, buddy. You're hired!" Then Lion headed back to his den for what he liked to call his "nap of champions."
When he woke up, Lion told Jackal the new plan. "Every day, climb that tall hill and look for something big and yummy, like elephants or maybe even ponies. When you see one, run back fast and say, 'Hey Lion, it's party time! Yummy food ahead!' Then, we'll both have a big, tasty dinner!"
And just like that, every day became a fun food hunt! Jackal would find the animals, Lion would do the chasing, and then they'd both eat like they were at the world's best picnic.
After a while, Jackal started to feel really strong, like a mini superhero. He thought, "Why am I just the helper? I want to be the boss for once!"
So, one day he told Lion, "I wanna be the big chaser this time! You look for the elephant, and when you find it, shout, 'Jackal, you're the star! Yummy food time!'"
Lion looked at him, trying to keep a straight face. "Jackal, chasing big animals isn't a piece of cake. But hey, if you wanna try, go ahead!"
Super excited, Jackal waited in the den. Soon, Lion yelled, "Jackal, you're the star! Yummy food time!"
Feeling like the king of the world, Jackal raced out. He jumped at the elephant, but whoops! His jump was way off. He landed right under the elephant's big foot.
SQUASH!
The elephant stepped on him like he was a squishy toy, and Lion just shook his head. "Well, buddy, I guess you're not ready to be the boss yet." And off he went, already dreaming of his next tasty adventure, one that wouldn't end in a squishy mess.
Once upon a time, not far or near,
A lion roamed the forest, showing no fear.
His tummy was full, he'd had quite a feast,
A buffalo dinner, to say the least.
Down to the lake, for a sip and a splash,
The lion felt great, no sign of a crash.
But who did he meet on his way back home?
A trembling jackal, who felt so alone.
"What do you want?" said Lion so grand,
His voice like thunder, you'd have to understand.
"Kind Mr. Lion," Jackal said, eyes a-glance,
"Could I be your helper, given the chance?"
"Sure," said the Lion, "I’ll give you some food,
If you're my lookout, and stay in a good mood."
So, Lion went home for a well-earned rest,
While Jackal dreamed of being his best.
After some naps, Lion spoke to his friend,
"Spot me some meals, round the mountain's bend.
If you see something yummy, don’t be a bore,
Say 'Great Lion, wake up, a feast is in store.'"
Each and every day, Jackal would go,
Climbing the mountain, sun high or low.
He'd find some treats, and with a happy roar,
Lion would hunt, and they'd eat more and more.
Jackal grew strong, not tiny or frail,
He felt really proud, like he could sail.
"Why should Lion have all the great fun?
I could hunt elephants, weigh more than a ton!"
"Mr. Lion," he said, "I have a new plan,
I’ll be the hunter, while you're the door man."
"Be careful," warned Lion, "it’s not an easy spree,
But alright, young Jackal, we'll just wait and see."
Up climbed the Lion, to look down below,
Soon he spotted an elephant, moving quite slow.
He woke up the Jackal, "Your dinner awaits,"
But the Jackal learned too late, of his foolish traits.
With a sprint and a leap, Jackal flew in the air,
His aim was all wrong, oh it just wasn’t fair!
He fell near the elephant, who lifted his heel,
And squashed the Jackal; it felt so unreal.
The lion shook his head, in the quiet moon’s glow,
"Some lessons are hard, but now you will know.
It's not always wise to think you're the best,
Sometimes it's better to leave it to the rest."
