Audio available for B1 version

Once upon a time, in a dense forest, a powerful lion ruled over all the animals. He was feared and respected by everyone, and none dared to cross his path. The lion was known for his fierce hunting skills, and he would go out every day to catch his prey.

One day, while returning from his hunt along the riverbank, the lion saw a jackal. The poor creature was trembling with fear and fell at the lion's feet, begging for mercy. Moved by the jackal's plight, the lion decided to spare his life. He took the jackal under his protection and made him his servant.

The jackal served the lion with utmost loyalty and dedication. He would accompany the lion on his hunts and was rewarded with the leftover prey. Over time, the two animals developed a deep bond of friendship, and the jackal became stronger and healthier.

However, the jackal's newfound strength also made him arrogant. He started boasting about his abilities and claimed that he was as strong as the lion himself. He also wanted to prove his worth by hunting an elephant and eating it. Despite the lion's warnings about the dangers of such a task, the jackal did not listen.

Determined to prove his worth, the jackal climbed a nearby tree and waited for an elephant to pass by. When he saw one, he jumped down from the tree, but he landed in the wrong place. The elephant saw him and stepped on him, killing him instantly.

The lion was devastated by the loss of his friend, the jackal. He realized that the jackal's arrogance had led to his downfall and that he should never have underestimated the dangers of the forest.

Once upon a time in a really, really thick forest—so thick you couldn't even play hide-and-seek in it—there was a big lion who was the boss of everything. Imagine the coolest playground monitor ever, but with bigger teeth. All the animals thought he was super awesome and were kinda scared of him, too.

So one sunny day, the lion was strolling back from his daily game of "Tag, You're Dinner!" when he saw a jackal. This little guy dropped to his paws and started begging. "Oh Mr. Lion, you're cooler than ice cream! Please don't eat me. I can be your helper and even get you the best seat at the 'Animal Talent Show'!"

The lion thought about it and said, "Alright, calm down. No need for a sob story. You can be my sidekick!"

From then on, the jackal was living the good life. He even went on hunting trips with the lion. Life was grand, like finding an extra fry at the bottom of the bag. Soon enough, the jackal started feeling pretty cool himself.

"I'm like a superhero!" the jackal bragged. "I bet I could catch an elephant! A small elephant, but still!"

The lion laughed. "Buddy, you're not there yet. Elephants are huge; they're not bite-sized snacks."

But the jackal just wouldn't listen. "Nuh-uh! I'm fast. I'll be like a super-spy in the forest!"

So off the jackal went, climbing a tree faster than you can say, "This won't end well." When he saw an elephant walk by, he jumped.

Instead of landing like a superhero, he kind of flopped. The elephant thought he was just something on the ground and—SPLAT—stepped on him.

The lion found out and was really sad, as sad as a lion can be without losing his "King of Cool" title. He shook his head. "Ah, my little buddy. You were such a legend, in your own mind. Now you're more like a 'Cautionary Tale of the Forest.'"

So life in the forest went on, a little less silly but full of animals who now knew the difference between being brave and just plain bonkers.

Lion King of the woods, so strong and so grand,
Had power and might, he led all the land.
All creatures would tremble, none would defy,
When Lion went hunting, they'd hide or they'd fly.

Along came a jackal, quaking in fear,
"Please spare me, O Lion! Let me stay near!"
Lion felt kindness; he gave Jack a chance,
"Now serve me," he said, in a friendship-like dance.

Jackal was loyal, by Lion's side every day,
Sharing in hunts and the feasts of their prey.
Time passed, they grew close, as good friends often do,
Jackal grew stronger, his confidence too.

Jackal got cheeky, "I'm strong like you, King!
I'll hunt down an elephant, oh what a thing!"
Lion said, "Wait, that's a dangerous plan,"
But Jackal just smirked, "I'm as strong as a man!"

Up in a tree, Jackal waited with care,
Dreaming of elephant meals he would share.
Down he did leap, but oh what a miss,
The elephant squashed him, like a bug would be squished.

Lion felt heartache, his friend was now gone,
A lesson was learned as the forest slept on.
"Arrogance leads you down pathways so grim,"
Thought Lion, "It's wisdom and love that will win."
