Der Brahmane hatte Mitleid mit dem Tiger und beschloss, ihm zu helfen. Er öffnete den Käfig und ließ den Tiger heraus. Aber kaum war der Tiger frei, sagte er: „Ich habe großen Hunger und möchte dich fressen.“
Der Brahmane war überrascht: „Aber du hast versprochen, mich nicht zu fressen!“
Der Tiger sagte: „Ich habe meine Meinung geändert.“
Der Brahmane dachte schnell nach und sagte: „Lass uns drei andere fragen, ob es fair ist, dass du mich frisst. Wenn alle ja sagen, dann kannst du mich fressen.“

Schließlich trafen sie einen schlauen Schakal. Der Brahmane erzählte dem Schakal die ganze Geschichte. Der Schakal tat so, als ob er verwirrt wäre. „Ich verstehe nicht,“ sagte der Schakal. „Kannst du mir zeigen, was passiert ist?“
Der Tiger stimmte zu und ging zurück in den Käfig. Sobald er drin war, sagte der Schakal zum Brahmanen, dass er den Käfig zuschließen solle. Der Brahmane tat dies und war in Sicherheit.
Dankbar für die Klugheit des Schakals ließ der Brahmane den Tiger zurück und ging nach Hause.
